The artist, they say, must be a channel of fresh creativity, of new perspectives and of boundless imagination. They also tell the artist to dot their I's, cross their T's and play lots of the Musical B's. While the idealist strikes out for uncharted territory, the pragmatist often looks to precedent.
For the intrepid idealist, however, the inherent challenge arises immediately. What happens when there is no precedent? When there is no guide, how do you chart a path?
